When:
Tuesday, October 13, 2015 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM
Where:
LBJ Student Center Ballroom
Description:

This event will address the fact that regardless the term used to refer a person of Mexican ancestry, Chicano or Mexican American, the important element is the pride each person feels of his or her Mexican heritage as they all are united by a common American experience. This event will include the screening of the PBS film A Class Apart: The Mexican-American Struggle in Edna, Texas, highlighting the educational equality and civil rights of all Mexican Americans. The documentary will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Dr. Saúl Sánchez, Dr. Jaime Mejía, Professor Juan Rodríguez, Mary Rodríguez Padilla and Gloria Salazar. The five panelists will share with the audience their experiences growing up during this historical time period, as they identify themselves as Chicanos or Mexican Americans.
