Japanese Cinema Club Presents: Funeral Parade of Roses
- Wednesday, March 30, 2016 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
- Centennial Hall G01
Japanese Cinema Club presents Toshio Matsumoto's Funeral Parade of Roses. The disjointed and experimental film is set in the LGBT counterculture of 1960s Tokyo. Inspired by Sophocles' Oedipus Rex, it in turn inspired Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange. Central themes include sexual identity, androgyny, civil unrest, subculture, and traditional versus modern culture. This screening is the eighth of a series of Japanese new wave films being shown in an attempt to connect the Texas State audience with the art, history, and development of modern Japanese society.
