The dark and disorienting existential thriller is set in war-torn medieval Japan and follows the macabre exploits of two peasant woman trapped in primal stasis. Their dynamic is used as a metaphor to contrast the new Japanese generation against the traditional society of their elders. Central themes include isolation, survival, jealousy, desperation, the reality of war, and the clashes of generations.
