Wednesday, April 20, 2016 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Where:

Description:

Japanese Cinema Club presents Koreyoshi Kurahara's Black Sun. The manic Sun Tribe film uses racial tension, free jazz, and anti-buddy dynamics to highlight the contradiction of social liberation and economic prosperity during the traumatic American occupation of Japan. The soundtrack features original music composed by jazz legend Max Roach. Central themes include xenophobia, racism, oppression, cultural boundaries, collapsed society, and restless youth. This screening is the eleventh of a series of Japanese new wave films being shown in an attempt to connect the Texas State audience with the art, history, and development of modern Japanese society
