The Story of an Empowering Leader in San Marcos: Ofelia Vasquez-Philo

This event will share with all students, faculty, and staff the story of Mrs. Ofelia Vasquez-Philo, including showing a portion of the 23-minute video the Hays County Historical Commission has published about her, as well as a copy of the book Suenos y Recuerdos del Pasado; Dreams and Memories of the Past — A Community History of Mexican Americans in San Marcos, Texas. Mrs. Vasquez-Philo was the first Hispanic to serve on the San Marcos School Board and is the founder of the Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos community center. Through her activism, volunteer work, and leadership roles, Mrs. Vasquez-Philo promotes the Hispanic heritage in Hays County. There will be a time for questions and answers portion and light refreshments available. Free admission and open to the public.
