Open the Closet, Your Child is Knocking

When:
Thursday, April 28, 2016 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Where:
LBJ Student Center Teaching Theater
Description:

This discussion panel integrates parents and members of the LGBTQIA community. Coming out can be difficult for both children and parents; with this in mind we will explore the range of reactions that parents and children may experience during this transitional time. The event aims to create a generational bridge between parents and children by promoting a mutual understanding within our Texas State and San Marcos communities. Professor Catherine Bitney, Department of Psychology, will moderate the panel discussion in which panelists will share their stories. In addition, Allies of Texas State and the local chapter of PFLAG (Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) will share resources for families and friends seeking to support LGBTQIA loved ones. Selected scenes from the following documentaries will be included: Prayers for Bobby and A Girl Like Me: The Gwen Araujo Story.
