Description:

Vietnam veteran and writer Tim O'Brien is the author of the contemporary classic novel-in-stories The Things They Carried (1990), as well as the novel Going After Cacciato (1978), which won the National Book Award. His memoir If I Die in a Combat Zone (1973) was selected at Texas State University's Common Reading book for 2005-2006. In 2012, O'Brien received both the Texas Writer Award and the Dayton Literary Peace Prize Foundation's Richard C. Holbrooke Distinguished Achievement Award. A former Endowed Chair in Creative Writing, O'Brien currently holds the title of Professor of Creative Writing at Texas State.
