BLPC | Mainstage Tribute: Regina Taylor

The Department of Theatre and Dance annually sponsors the Black and Latino Playwrights Conference that includes professional guest directors and actors, auditions, 3-5 days of open rehearsals and in-class presentations by guest artists culminating in staged reading performances open to the campus and community.
7:30 p.m.: Mainstage Tribute to Regina Taylor, guest of honor. The tribute will include presentation of excerpts from her works followed by a Q&A session and award presentation. Post-tribute reception in Theatre Center lobby.
Regina Taylor is best known to television audiences for her role as Lily Harper in I’ll Fly Away, for which she received a Golden Globe Award for best actress, an NAACP Image Award and two Emmy nominations. Taylor is also an accomplished playwright and director. Her popular play, Crowns, premiered in 2002 and won four Helen Hayes awards for its Washington, D.C., production, including Best Regional Musical and a win for Taylor as best director. Regina Taylor is an Artistic Associate at the Goodman Theater in Chicago, IL, where many of her plays have been produced.
