- Music Building Recital Hall (MUS 236)
Ensemble Series presents Monday-Wednesday Percussion Ensemble and Panorama Steel Band Concert, directed by Dr. Genaro Gonzalez
Music Building Recital Hall (MUS 236)
The Monday-Wednesday Percussion Ensemble is an audition-based group consisting of music and non-music majors who perform classical music on a variety of percussion instruments.
The Panorama Steel Band uses chromatically pitched steel pans, similar to those originally made from 55-gallon industrial oil drums and used by the percussion ensembles of early 20th century Carnival celebrations in Trinidad and Tobago. As with most steel bands, the distinct and vibrant sounds of the Caribbean are staples of of this band's repertory, but occasionally other styles of music may be played, as well.
Open to the public. Tickets may be purchased in advance at http://www.txstatepresents.com or at the door. The ticket booth will open 30 minutes prior to the start of the program. Fee-based parking is available on weeknights at the Pleasant Street Garage, located across the street from the Music Building.
